Nanosatellite Design

American Academy of Aeronautics is involved in researching several aspects of nanosatellite design.

  • Navigation: Under a NASA SBIR Phase I contract, the Academy is researching a technique for distance measurement between cooperating nanosatellites. It does not depend on GPS or Earth observation. Therefore, the technique could be used in Earth orbit or interplanetary flight.
  • Photovoltaics: The Academy provides fast measurement and calibration of photovoltaic systems for external customers, and continues to refine its techniques.
  • Orientation: The Academy is building on existing work in non-propulsive techniques for attitude control.
